Happy Wolf Moon (January)!

First, here is a seasonal update...
We are well into winter now and proof can be seen in the lengthening of the days. When I last wrote I was feeling like I had to brace for the darkness, the cold, and the quiet of the season. I reflected on this and decided to change my approach. Instead of spending my time wishing winter away (my annual norm) I decided to dive in - even into the shovelling! The gifts, shifts, and the gratitude that have emerged were/are immense, and I am still encountering more each day. One that has especially stuck with me, has come with the juxtaposition of our four-ish season climate and the climate in places like LA, where so many have lost so much. At the same time as I was here catching snowflakes in the palm of my hand, those in LA were catching ash. It’s moments like these that I viscerally return to the truth of our shared and sacred vulnerability and seize opportunities for deeper connection and digging into what really matters.
This wolf moon in January reminds us that we too have magic and wild in us. It is an invitation to connect with our deep instincts that can energize and embolden us to act from a place of love, shared humanity, and compassion. Is there something that you have been denying about our human nature, or your own personal nature? Now is the time to explore it, get familiar with it, see what it has to offer you, and perhaps most importantly, what you can offer it. There are unsung stories inside of us all, waiting for their opportunity to shine.
Listening Therapy for Anxiety and Trauma Treatment is Here!
As I often talk about, we are animals! We have instincts that have been programmed into our cells for millions of years. One of these instincts is survival, and as you can imagine it is of top priority to our being. Ideally, this instinct would be like a passenger in a car that takes the wheel in the event of an emergency, but because of how our lives are structured in this modern world, it often ends up being the driver 24/7.
One of the biggest symptoms of this is anxiety - runaway thoughts of catastrophe and worst case scenarios, an uneasy feeling, worries about never being enough or having enough, tense muscles, racing heart, constant fears about uncertainty, digestive/bowel issues, are some of the most common ones I hear about.
Anxiety isn’t your fault, it doesn't mean you have done something wrong or that there is something wrong with you. It simply is an indicator that your nervous system is under too much pressure. After years of working with my clients anxiety, and my own, I have learned that talk therapy alone is not enough. We need to directly engage with the nervous system itself and that is precisely what this program does.
Feel free to visit my website for more information on this whole-person approach to supporting anxiety and unresolved trauma. Also, if you know someone who could benefit, please feel free to pass this on. I am more than happy to meet virtually with anyone for a 15-30 minute consult to answer questions.
As always, here are a few things that are speaking to my heart right now...
My favourite book Belonging, and a great article from The Guardian on anxiety.
Stay curious and compassionate,
Dana
